Since its launch in 1997, the “Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition” (HKYSTIC) is now the largest and most popular science competition in Hong Kong with nearly 8,000 applicants from over 400 schools participating in this annual event. The competition targets on kindergarten, primary and secondary school students and teachers, with categories including Science Fiction Drawing, Invention, Research, Science and Technology Practical Activity. Top winners will have the opportunity to be nominated to participate in the largest national science competition in China – China Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation Contest which is hosted by different mainland cities in August annually.

Aimed at strengthening students’ creativity, practical skills and promoting science and creativity education, the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition (HKYSTIC) has become the largest science competition in Hong Kong. HKYSTIC 12-13 received an overwhelming response from local students, attracting a total of over 3,000 entries from 300 kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, with categories including Science Fiction Drawing, Invention and Research, Student Organized Science and Technology Activity, Outstanding Science and Technology Teacher, Teaching Aids Invention, as well as the Outstanding Science and Technology School and Young Scientist of the Year! Meanwhile, top winners will be nominated to represent Hong Kong in the China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest and also the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair Affiliated Fair.
Aligning to the format of international science competitions, the final judging was held in an open booth style, in which contestants in categories of Invention and Research, Student Organized Science and Technology Activity, Outstanding Science and Technology Teacher, Teaching Aids Invention had to set booths for project display in order to present their entries to the judging panel and to respond to the panel’s questions. Prior to the final judging session was a public exhibition which allowed members of the public to interact with the contestants and see their projects.
