cultivate young people to become caring, responsible and innovative citizens with world-wide perspectives. We conduct activities in several areas: popularization of science and technology, creativity education, leadership training and various large-scale joint school competitions and exhibitions. In 1997 we began to hold the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition which is now the largest competition of its kind in Hong Kong. Winners from this competition will participate in the China Adolescent Science and Technology Invention Contest which is the largest science competition in China.

In 2003, we were affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) which is the largest secondary student science competition in the world. In May 2004, 14 year old inventor, Chan Yik-hei from Tuen Mun shocked the world when he became the youngest prize-winner of the World Finals by capturing the second prize in the engineering section of the 55th Intel ISEF in Portland, USA. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) named a minor planet-20780 after his name for his contribution to science and technology.

Three years later, in 2007 Hong Kong produced the first World Champion in the Intel ISEF, 18 year old scientist, Tom Ka-kin Chan from North Point received the First Place Grand Award and the coveted Best of Category Award for his invention of a new bio-plastic. In November 2007, the IAU named the minor planet-23265 as Kakinchan to recognize Tom’s invention.

In 2006, the Hong Kong SAR Government supported HKNGCA in setting up the Science and Innovation Centre in Sai Kung. This is the first centre of its kind in Hong Kong for students and teachers which aim to promote science and creativity education. Science lectures, workshops and various science related activities are organized for students, science teachers and parents. Our Centre is situated within a recreational camp site in a quiet and  picturesque part of Sai Kung in Hong Kong.
